Fund Raising
Committed to growing the Mahjong community, one table at a time not just a mission statement to Mahj Squad 901. Being a community entails helping others. We have also been honored to support charitable work through the mahjong community. Our fundraising efforts have benefited organizations including the West Cancer Foundation, Thistle & Bee and the Women's Exchange. The events have been varied, fun, and successful.
The West Cancer Foundation Fundraiser: Held at the Delta Blues Winery, Lakeland, TN, our budding community played mahjong and raised over $800 for the organization. We were featured on their website with the following:
Featured Fundraiser Sandy Sissom and Pat Ford “For the last eighteen months, my sister Pat and I have been building a community of mahjong players named MahJ Squad 901. The ladies involved are fun, enthusiastic, and giving. We have received so much joy from this group that we decided to do a fundraiser to pay it forward. My being a breast cancer survivor, it made sense for us to choose West Cancer Foundation. That is how Simply the Breast came to be. Life and priorities change when you hear the word cancer. People and relationships become what matter. The friends who stepped forward to help, the MahJ Squad 901 ladies who donated, and the support from the staff at West Cancer Foundation made our event a success. The blessings we received from the fundraiser far outweighed any efforts. Don’t hesitate to plan an event. Make it simple, fun, and hopeful. Then enjoy the experience of making a difference.”

Women's Exchange: Since 1885, the Exchange have remained commitment to empowering women, we offer a unique avenue for seamstresses, crafters, artisans, and consignors to provide for themselves and their families.
Mahj Squad 901 has developed a strong relationship with the Women’s Exchange of Memphis that supports ongoing fundraising efforts. “Monday afternoon at the WE” invites mahjong players to participate for a nominal seat fee, enjoy lunch in the Exchange’s Team Room, and shop throughout the facility. In addition, the Squad has offered lessons and hosted several social mahjong tournaments. These efforts have generated meaningful revenue for the Women’s Exchange of Memphis.
Thistle ad Bee: The organization supports women survivors of sex trafficking, prostitution, and addiction as they rebuild their lives through safe housing, holistic care, and meaningful employment. They believe healing takes place within community, and that every woman deserves dignity, purpose, and hope for the future.
In the same spirit of community care, Mahj Squad 901 has extended its support to Thistle & Bee with “Be at the Bee" Players come together each week at Chickasaw Oaks Plaza to enjoy mahjong in front of the store. Players contribute through a seat fee that is donated directly to Thistle & Bee. A benefit event is currently being planned for October 2026, further strengthening this meaningful partnership and its impact on the women served by the organization.
